Urban Eyes

We did a day trip to Chichicastenango (Chichi), to take in the markets, a cemetery and another Church. Now by this time, I was seriously churched out as most Guatemalans are Catholic and there are churches everywhere. It became a running joke with Kathryn when I asked what was next – oh just another Church! But seriously, this church is built on a Mayan sacred site so two types of beliefs fuse together in harmony as fire burns inside and outside the church as offerings to the Mayan gods. People burn eggs, food, fruit and anything they can afford as offerings for a good life.
